Mixer capacity calculator
Enter how many kilograms of dry blend your line needs per hour to see the batch weight required and the mixer models that can supply it.
How the calculation works
- Hourly demand is increased by the reserve you choose.
- The result is divided by batches per hour, giving the weight of one batch.
- The smallest EPM-H and EPM-V models that cover that weight are listed.
Why batch weight decides the size
A heater–cooler (hot/cold) mixer works in batches rather than continuously: while the heater brings one batch to temperature, the cooler is cooling the previous one. Hourly dry-blend capacity is therefore batch weight × batches per hour. Knowing the batch weight that meets your extruder demand is the first step in choosing a model.
Three numbers drive the result
- Total demand: if one mixer feeds several extruders, add their demand together.
- Batches per hour: the catalogue EPM-H and EPM-V models are sized for 4–6 batches per hour. For recipes that heat slowly or carry many additives, the lower figure is the safer basis.
- Capacity reserve: leaving headroom for recipe changes, cleaning and future extruders keeps the mixer from running at its limit all the time.
Beyond the numbers
This tool gives a first selection. Choosing between the horizontal-cooler EPM-H and the vertical-cooler EPM-V also depends on floor space, cooling water and the number of extruders. See how to size a PVC mixer and horizontal vs vertical cooler mixer for more.

Questions about sizing
How do you calculate mixer capacity?
Take the extruders’ total hourly demand, increase it by the reserve you want, and divide by the number of batches per hour. The result is the dry-blend weight the mixer has to prepare in each batch.
How many batches per hour does a heater–cooler mixer run?
The catalogue EPM-H and EPM-V models are sized for 4–6 batches per hour. The real figure depends on the recipe, the target discharge temperature and cooling time.
Can one mixer feed two extruders?
Yes; add both extruders’ hourly demand together. The feeding system that carries the blend from the mixer to the extruders should be planned at the same time.
What if the result is beyond the catalogue range?
If demand exceeds the batch capacity of the largest model, two parallel lines or a custom capacity are considered. According to the catalogue notes, custom capacities are possible.
